Swimmer Of The Moment Trophy

The swimmer of the moment trophy was introduced and made by Barry in March 2020 to commemorate the daring deeds and failed strokes of the Bramston Canoe Club community. Here we will see a pictorial history of the brave men and women who have taken the plunge in pursuit of kayaking perfection.

The Dubious Exit Award

In 2022 it was realised that a new trophy was needed, for all those moments when an entry or exit into a boat did not go quite as expected! Hence the ‘Dubious Exit’ award was crafted by Barry. Recipients of this grand honour will be immortalised here along with our brave swimmers.

Wow, it’s been some time since we updated this page! But fear not, our intrepid club members have been hard at work taking swims in pursuit of the glorious duck. Here’s a sample of our honoured swimmers, well done all!

July 2022

June 2022

The duck is changing hands rapidly, at Lee Valley Ollie took it from Louise but she didn’t hold it for long as Mike swooped in and snatched it near the end of the session. Good work guys for pushing yourselves.

The exploits of Bramston CC continue apace as Simon Hurley claims the title with a swim whilst surfing at Woolacombe. However Simon doesn’t retain the duck for long as Louise Howlett nicks it off him with some Lee Valley swims 🙂 On the subject of Lee Valley big congratulations to Summer Evans, Louise Howlett and Olly Mawer who have all recently passed their legacy assessments.

April 2022 – Andy E passes the ‘Dubious Exit Award’ to Simon H after Simon’s less than graceful get out at the end of our River Ivel paddle! Well done Simon!

Oh dear…no sooner had Barry got his his hands on the duck then he had to pass it on to John H, who seems to have decided that he was far too cool to go down Nayland Weir the right way up!

March 2022 – Liz Cannon finally gets to hand over the duck to Barry Iszard who swam whilst paddling in some big stuff in Anglesey. Well done to Barry for passing his Advanced Sea Leader assessment, a great achievement although it pales into insignificance next to the attainment of the duck!

We are proud to present the ‘Dubious Exit’ award and it’s very first proud recipient, Andy Evans. This award has been created to honour all those mishaps that can and do happen whilst trying to get in and out of boats. Many thanks to Barry Iszard for designing and crafting this beauty.

January 2022….The first recipient for this year is Liz Cannon for a swim on the River Dart. Well done Liz, both for giving some whitewater a go and for ‘fessin up’ to the swim 🙂

December 2021…….Steve Ball couldn’t resist a bit of backstroke on the Blackwater Estuary during the winter wild camp weekend. Honestly….the things people will do to get their hands on this trophy!

And our latest winner is……..Adam Linehan. Shingle Street, November 14th 2021. Adam had some good surfing on a few waves before Neptune decided to give him a clip round the ear! Well done Adam.

ALL HAIL THE DUCK!

Simon has finally managed to pass on the duck, this time to Louise Howlett who put in a tremendous effort at Lee Valley on 19th September. Well done Louise!

The latest member to be honoured with the swim trophy is Simon Holliday. Simon successfully rolled twice at Lee Valley on Saturday 10th July but eventually succumbed and had to pull his deck in anger. Well done Simon!

Our new lucky recipient of the ‘Swimmer Of The Moment’ trophy is Hazel. Hazel put in a superb effort learning to side surf in the weir and was rewarded with a great swim and great progress was made. And as you can see, Hazel was still smiling at the end! Keep it up Hazel 🙂

Edit: I received a confession from Kevin after Hazel gained her award. The Friday before Kevin and Anna went for an Open boat trip on the R Stour. Kevin confesses that he took a swim at the bottom of a weir, shortly followed by Anna doing the same thing resulting in Anna swimming. This doesn’t change anything as the current swimmer of the moment is still Hazel. Keep up the good work guys.

Sunday 23rd May 2021 - The trophy passed from Father to daughter when Summer had an fun swim at Nayland weir. Minutes later Summer was forced to pass the trophy on to Mark as he made an 'emergency' exit from his open boat. Later on Ian and Steffi were forced to get wet by their dog 'Bumble'...pictures of Ian and Steffi coveting their trophy to follow.... Good fun had by all on this trip 🙂

Congratulations Andy. Awarded for swimming in placid surf off of Angle Bay, Pembrokshire. In fairness this trophy did pass to several different people throughout the week (11 – 20 Sept),but Andy was the ultimate winner, despite protestations. There is photographic evidence of the backstroke clearly being deployed before an unceremonious exit from his kayak. September 2020.
