Trip info Day 1 The River Waveney – Bungay loop
Put in at Waveney Canoe Club, the Riverside Centre, The Straithe, Bungay, N435 1BF. Parking on the surrounding roads as the bridge to the Canoe club is closed. Access by foot only.
Alternative put in – Outney Meadows Caravan Park NR35 1HG – Cost £7.50 small boat (ww, sup), £10.00 large two man boat ie canadians. Car Park is covered by CCTV so relatively safe.
Paddle the River Waveney loop as far as A143. From here the river gets very shallow, however you are still foating! Get out the punt poles and punt or ski (as we did) toA144 Earsham Dam road for lunch, then return.
Day 2 The River Bure – Wroxham Broads to Thurne (campsite)
Camping at Bureside Holiday Park, Boudary road, Great Yarmouth, NR29 3BW. £20 per tent for 2 people per night. Nice flat camping site with clean showers and toilets. Easy access to the the River Bure from the site. There is a local convenience store about a 7 minute drive from the campsit.
Food can be had at the Lion at Thurne pub, The St, Thurne, Great Yarmouth NR29 3AP, a 15 minute walk along grass tracks – take your wet walking gear! Altenatively, to go by car you are looking at a 7 mile drive.
Car shuttle (26 minutes each way) to a public car park at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club, The Avenue, Wroxham, Norwich, NR12 8TS. £5.00 all day parking, cash only.
We paddled/sailed Wroxham Broads, Salhouse Broads(for the sailing – wind was in our favour), Cockshoot Broad (nature reserve board walk), South Walsham Broads (take a right opposite St Benets Abbey ruin) and back to the campsite.
Day 3 The River Ant Thurne to Sutton Staithe
Car shuttle to Sutton Staithe hotel, Staithe road, Sutton, Norwich, NR12 9QS. Public car park next to the hotel and marina. Free parking. (15 minutes each way from campsite).
We paddled/ sailed from the campsite on the River Bure and then north onto the River Ant just past St Benets Abbey. We stopped for tea at Ludham Bridge Stores (also public loo’s here) Johnson Street, Great Yarmouth NR29 5NX and observed a broads boat crash its way under the bridge nearly de capitating one of its passengers – very amusing.
We stopped off at Toad Hole Cottage, How Hill, Ludham, Great Yarmouth NR29 5PG, for lunch and a bit of a walk. (Public loo’s here.)
We then hit the big one – Barton Broad. Good sailing! From here we sailed/paddled up to our get out point at Sutton Staithe.
