Olde Felixstowe 151022

This was a training event for some kayakers who were getting ready to do their BC Sea kayak assessment (old BC 3 star sea). The weather conditions were good, NW top end of F4 (11-16kts) gusting F5 (17-21kts) building F5 (17kts-21kts) gusting F6 (22-27kts) back end of a spring tide. HW 15:39. And the sun was shining!

Quote from Barry “Old Felixstowe delivered once again despite yesterday’s strong winds. Lots of positive outcomes working with the different ever changing flows, breaking in and out, ferry gliding, even some rolling in the rough stuff. There were a couple of swims from Rachel (Maldon CC) but hats off she was in the thick of it, she got proper munched on the front of the incoming tide race when a wave just folded over the top of her. Rescue performed nice and quickly. 10 paddlers in total from us, Maldon and Braintree. Quote from @David Puttick “I was bracing more than paddling in there”. “

We had set off at low water and played in the eddies, practicing breaking in and out of tidal streams. As the tide flooded the tidal streams became more extreme, and the eddies changed shape and position! The photos don’t do the day justice but will give you a flavour of what had happened. Many thanks to the instructors Barry I, Clive M and Liz C. Also a big thankyou to the fellow paddlers who all got stuck in and involved making this an excellent day on the water – Mags, Rachel, Dave, Dave P, Louise H, Roger and John H.
