December 2022

We waved a fond farewell to November and entered December. The Winter Wild camp was had on the first weekend, getting cold and windy LW 14:35 Bradwell Waterside.NE F4/5 dropping F4 7 Deg. This was an interesting one as people set off from various departure points along the Blackwater Estuary. 4 from Heybridge, met 3 from Marconi SC met one from Bradwell marina, joined later by 2 from Mersea Island and to complete the confusion several people walked in from??. Wind and tide together made for a quick and enjoyable paddle to Sails Point. Usual crimbo crackers and a big fire. Steve coped it on the approach to Sails point and earnt himself the swimmers trophy. Lucky boy. Going home was different too. I set off on my loansome back to MSC as I didn’t fancy camping, arriving at MSC in the dark. Kevin and Estelle also paddled back in the dark to Tollesbury Marina. Several people visited Lee Valley on the same Sunday where Summer became the proud owner of the Swimmers Trophy.

Leaving Heybridge

|Later on in the month several paddlers went from MSC to Maldon and then circumnavigated Northey Island, before stopping for lunch and returning to MSC SC.

Mundon Stone Point, lunch stop

The very next day the temperature dropped, Barry went out for a solo paddle from Bradwell.

The frost says it all.

The pool sessions came to and end for the season, but the final paddle before xmas was Christmas eve paddle Hoe Mill lock to Rushes Weir. Followed by a meal in the Wheatsheaf public house Hatfield Peveral.
