Annual Chelmer Tour for Sunday 6th October 2019. This is a great little touring paddle and we would like to invite paddlers from all Canoe Clubs across the county to join us.
This has been a great trip over the last few years with paddlers from Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Braintree, Chelmsford, Southend and Witham attending. It’s a great opportunity for paddlers to meet, socialise, exchange ideas and have fun!
The paddle plan is as follows:
With all the building works going on in Chelmsford we will paddle from Boreham (Trifarm) to Heybridge Basin, around 7 miles in total. A car shuttle will be required.
The paddle is of course subject to flow and weather conditions.
Date: Sunday 6th October 2019
Meeting Time: 09:00 to unload, set-up car shuttle and briefing.
Meeting/Start Place: Church Road, Boreham, Essex, CM3 3DS (Near Trifarm). Parking along side of road.
On the Water for about 10:30
Lunch stop: Half way point. Ricketts Lock. Packed lunch/picnic required as there are no shops or pubs in the vicinity.
Finish Point: Daisy Meadows Car Park, Heybridge Basin, CM9 4RW. Free to use car park with ample space but could get busy later in the day on a nice weekend
There are a total of 5 locks to portage.
A boat licence is required to paddle the Chelmer, if you don’t already have one then they can be purchased @ £5 per craft from Essex Waterways Staff at Papermill Lock, Hoe Mill Lock or Heybridge Basin.
If you are planning on joining us then please email: info@bramstoncanoeclub.org so we can get an idea of numbers.
There are 2 pubs and a tea room at the finish point for those who would like to relax with a drink at the end of the paddle.
Looking forward to seeing lots of you on the day,
Mike Dalby
